Circular walk Moylgrove-Ceibwr Bay, Pembrokeshire coastal walk 5.2 miles

Our original plan on Sunday was to do this Cemaes Head walk. We ad libbed a little bit when we got there but it turned out to be a lovely walk all the same!

Circular walk Molygrove-Ceibwr Bay
Distance: 5.2 miles
Time: 2.5-3 hours
Details: no boots needed, could probably do this in a decent pair of walking shoes, undulating paths, gradual gradient climbs up towards the coastal path and along the cliffs
Facilities: toilets at Moylgrove and Pavilion garden centre, nice lunch menu also available there.
Difficulty: Easy

Dog info: dogs enjoyed all the ups and downs of the coastal path. Pitstop on the way back at Pavilion garden centre which had a designated dog area in their café...and lots of smells, happy days!

Route instructions:

Park in Moylgrove. As you come into the village from Poppit Sands/Cippyn way, there is a car park on the left hand side which also has a map of walking routes in the area (take a snap for future reference).

1. Leave the car park and turn left walking along the road. Approximately half a mile up turn right to follow the signposted footpath.

2. Follow the track along past some pretty houses and up a gravel track until it comes out in some grassy woodland. You come out in a field, turn left and head up into another open field.

3. Head across the field bearing right and go through another gate into a second field. Keep going through this field and head to the gate (either one brings you out the same way really) on the other side.

4. Rejoin the road and turn right following it straight on until you reach a crossroads. Keep going straight on - there's a small map on the sign which shows the road ahead is private but can be accessed to get to the coastal path.

5. Keep going all the way to the end of this lane and then through a gate that says no public access (for cars...or so we thought).

6. Follow this gravel track up until you reach a farmhouse in front. Turn right and follow the signpost for the coastal path.

7. Keep following this lane and go over a stile...nice views of the sea and cliffs up ahead here. Follow the small path along the side of the fence (keep this to your left) which brings you around at the top of the coastal path.

8. Cross over another stile (I think, my memory isn't serving me too well here and I didn't take as many photos) and follow the coastal path down steeply to the right and then climb back up the other side.

9. Keep going for another 1.5 miles and you rejoin the road which brings you out by Ceibwr Bay. Follow the road around to the right and then keep to the left as it branches signposted Pavilion café and garden centre.

10. You walk along a river for a short stretch and then a signpost points you in the direction of the garden centre which is a steep uphill climb (you could alternatively follow the river which is a bit longer).

11. Climb up for 10 mins and you'll reach the garden centre. We stopped here for something to eat and drink and the food was surprisingly good and reasonable. The garden centre itself is a bit of a maze with not very clear signage....the "designated dog café" is actually the bit outside the entrance to the café...and not inside the door as we thought the arrow was pointing when we traipsed in with our muddy boots and excited, food-obsessive beagles in tow....hahaha!

12. Exit the garden centre via the road and turn right when you come to the main road. Follow the road all the way down and you'll reach the car park at Moylgrove again on your left.

I thought this walk would end up being longer when we did it...I guess you could add more mileage by walking the coastal path longer instead of deviating to the garden centre en route but our puppy had already had a long enough walk the day before so we didn't want to push our luck. It was a nice loop. I prefer a circular walk...and the views of the cliffs and little coves along the coastal path on the way were beautiful.

We detoured to Poppit Sands on the way back which is a lovely dog friendly beach - lots of space to run and a café serving drinks and ice creams. The beagles had a blast...Gracie's second time on the beach and she thoroughly enjoyed!

Let me know if you try it!
